Guide Review - Flower Drum Song: Broadway Musical Review

While this show is no "Les Mis" or "The Producers," this revival of Rodger's and Hammerstein's "Flower Drum Song" is sure to please fans of Broadway musicals. The show's characters struggle with balancing tradition and happiness in a modern world among a visually stunning set and costumes. Once the Chinese Opera house becomes Club Chop Suey, the tunes become more upbeat and even a bit burlesque (all in good taste, of course), while other songs, such as "One Hundred Million Miracles," feel heavy and loaded, the performance of "Fan Tan Fanny" is entertaining and engaging. Particularly refreshing was the lighthearted and comical nature of the show, including the introduction of a new character, Harvard, a flamboyant costume designer.
